That is a stupid place to put the shock... not that you did it but the engineer should get slapped.

It will have the range no problem but the geometry on the movement might not perfectly match the spacing on the cassette and pull on the shifter. Sram might have a compatibility chart. Shimano rates compatibility ranges saying not compatible, compatible and fully compatible. If a combo works less than 90% of the time they called that incompatible. fully compatible was something like works 98.5% of the time. Not sure if Sram has similar recommendations or not.

The shifter and the cassette are a match, same year and model. I was just wondering whether if the derailleur has a shifting preference: like a 10-speed-spaced notch in the mechanism that makes it "10 SPEED ONLY" according to their website. And by chance, do you know whether if the 8-speed chain will fit into the cage of the 10-speed derailleur?

Hi dave, jason here. I have a question, hoping you can clear it up. Can I use the 2011 X.9 10-speed derailleur with my 8-speed shifter and 8-speed cassette? Thanks!

That's last year's Specialized Deviant. I liked it so much that I bought this year's Deviant II. Light helmet that is better ventilated than most.
